Multiple layers, a calmer web

Automatic detection.
Personal control.

Let WebSafe check images locally, then mark anything else you want hidden. All protection features are free.

01

Detect adult images

A bundled AI model checks images and video thumbnails locally. Choose Balanced or Strict and reveal individual detections when needed.

Explore image protection
02

Mark what should disappear

Click an element or drag a rectangle over several. Preview the selection and save a local rule for that website.

Explore marking mode
03

Stop pop-ups

Automatic windows and third-party script pop-ups are intercepted as they try to open.

04

Remove overlays

Dynamically loaded adult ads and suspicious third-party frames are removed from the page.

05

Check downloads

Programs, scripts, macro files and disguised double extensions are blocked before saving.

06

Detect scareware

Fake virus alerts and fraudulent support prompts are reliably hidden.

07

Enforce SafeSearch

Strict search settings are automatically applied to supported search engines.

08

Decide locally

Image analysis runs in your browser. No page content is uploaded to the developer or an analysis service.

Image protection, on your terms

Local AI. Clear choices.

Automatic adult image detection is enabled by default. Protection and content scanning must also be active; website exceptions are respected.

Balanced

Focus on explicit content

Covers images with strong model signals for pornographic content or explicit illustrations. This is the default setting.

Strict

Include suggestive imagery

Uses a lower threshold and also considers suggestive imagery. More ordinary images may be flagged.

During a check, the image is blurred. Detected images are covered with a “Show once” option. The popup shows how many images were checked, hidden or could not be checked.

Images and video thumbnails are supported, not continuous video analysis. Images may briefly appear before scanning; inaccessible images remain visible. False positives are possible.

Your own website rules

Click. Select. Hide.

Open “Mark content / learning mode” in WebSafe. Image analysis pauses while you select elements.

01

Select with the mouse

Click an element or drag a rectangle over images, video elements, frames or article cards. Click again to deselect.

02

Preview before saving

Preview hides the selected elements temporarily. Save keeps the rule; Escape cancels without saving.

03

Keep control

Rules apply to the same website after reloading and to matching new elements. Remove a rule in settings to restore the content.

Learning mode saves website rules; it does not retrain the AI model. Rules based on an element’s position can match differently after a layout change.

Real-time protection

Go beyond blocking.
Prevent threats early.

Many download sites disguise ads as clickable content, open windows during user actions or redirect through multiple destinations. WebSafe intervenes before the page loads and before the download starts.

  • ✓
Before loadingBrowser rules block known destinations and clear URL patterns.
  • ✓
While browsingThe page guard checks pop-ups and overlays. Visible images and newly loaded content are checked as you browse.
  • ✓
When downloadingThe filename, transfer and browser-reported danger status are checked again.

Frequently asked questions

Clarity is part
of protection.

Still have questions? Use GitHub issues to ask questions or report false positives.

Are images sent to an AI provider?+

No. The model ships with WebSafe and runs locally. When image pixels cannot be read directly, WebSafe may request the original image again from its server, without cookies or a referrer.

Are the new features paid?+

No. Image detection and marking mode are free, just like the other protection features. Supporting the project is voluntary.

Does image detection catch everything?+

No. It checks visible images and video thumbnails, not every video frame, CSS background or protected image. Some images cannot be checked, and harmless content can be flagged.

Does WebSafe replace antivirus software?+

No. WebSafe prevents common browser threats but cannot perform a full file analysis. Keep your browser's built-in Safe Browsing protection and up-to-date antivirus software enabled.

Are ordinary downloads blocked?+

Ordinary PDFs, images, videos and archives are not blocked solely because of their extension. WebSafe focuses on executable, script-capable or disguised files.

Does WebSafe work in incognito mode?+

Yes, after you enable “Allow in incognito” in your browser's extension details.

Can I bypass false positives?+

Use “Show once” to reveal a detected image, switch to Balanced mode or add a trusted website exception. Manually saved rules can be removed in the settings.

Is WebSafe really open source?+

Yes. The entire project is available under the MIT License, including the build script, tests and security documentation.
